While Google Drive is already a fantastic backup cloud storage tool, it’s about to get a even more useful; starting on June 28th, the service will let you back up entire folders from your computers hard drive and keep them in sync with your account.
You’ll need to first download the Backup and Sync tool for your PC or Mac when it launches; once you’ve signed in, you’ll be able to choose which folders on your computer you want to keep backed up, and access them through Drive across your devices. That sounds handy for people who already use Drive extensively – it’d certainly be nice to have a powerful search function for backed up files.
However, unless Google comes up with new pricing plans to support this feature, Drive’s backup will cost you a fair bit more than other services, currently only comes with 15GB of space for free. 1TB of space will set you back £100 a year, while most rivals like Backblaze charge about half that price: Backblaze’s unlimited storage and syncing costs £50 annually, and Carbonite as well as small business-focused Crashplan come in at £59 a year.
Make sure you hold as many backups of your important files, online and offline but if the unimaginable happens and your drive crashes or your computer fails, we can help get your data back from internal hard drives, external devices and flash media. R3 Data Recovery is an excellent emergency data recovery service that I would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone.
From the initial telephone conversation I had with them I was extremely impressed by their implicit understanding and sensitive handling of my stress and panic, believing I had possibly lost 10 year’s worth of invaluable documentation, imagery and archiving from my highly respected research held on a USB stick.
They worked efficiently and conscientiously to retrieve data urgently for me and made provision for me to receive it and all in time for an important PP presentation, the success of which was crucial to my career.
They were mindful in keeping me informed of their progress with the recovery process, hence putting my mind at rest, and they accomplished this all within a working day/evening. They worked hard and consistently until the job was completed successfully and made themselves available for me to talk to during out-of-work hours. They transferred all the remaining data that was not urgent onto a USB stick and returned it in the post to me, thus very satisfactorily completing an exemplary and outstanding service.
