A UK Data Recovery Company Built on 20+ Years of Expertise
R3 Data Recovery is a professional UK data recovery company serving individuals, businesses, and public sector organisations across the UK, Ireland, Europe, and internationally.
Our main facility at Security House, Sheffield — established in 2007 as the UK's first high-capacity data recovery operation — is one of the best-equipped laboratories in the country.
A team of highly skilled specialist engineers and technicians work on-site, handling everything from mechanical repairs to ransomware recovery.
All recovery work is carried out in-house under UK law at our UK facilities. We never resell.
Purpose-Built for Critical Recoveries
Recoveries are performed at our UK laboratories, including our purpose-built ISO 3 cleanroom facility at Security House in Sheffield, with additional processing carried out at our Hitchin lab where appropriate.
From platter swaps to NAND work, our cleanroom and imaging benches are designed to minimise risk and maximise recovery success. Everything stays on-site within our UK facilities: secure access control, continuous monitoring, and a UK-based specialist team dedicated to restoring data safely.
Proprietary imaging platforms, forensic chain-of-custody workflows, and high-throughput infrastructure across our UK laboratories allow us to process large RAID, SAN, and server incidents quickly — often exceeding 300 TB per day while maintaining evidential integrity for regulatory and legal needs.
Every photograph on this site shows our real working laboratories and engineers — no stock images, no staged sets.

What our customers say
Based on 587+ verified reviews on Reviews.io
STOP LOOKING!!! R3 IS THE ONLY DATA RECOVERY SERVICE YOU CAN TRUST! Victim of Fields? I contacted Data Recovery Solutions first - they sound good and offer free collection, testing, etc., etc. and appear to have good customer service, however, luckily since I research everything to death, I saw the pattern in their Trust Pilot reviews and came across R3 Data Recovery (who can actually help you get money back from these fraudsters) - I have had a memory card reported as unrecoverable by a Fields’ subsidiary in the past, magically after paying the full amount requested! - They also tell you they can dispose of it for free which I stupidly agreed to - Should have sent it to Andy and his team but that’s not the point of this review. Drive Failure: I had an Apple Time Capsule 3 TB drive fail after about 7 years of it sitting in the corner. Tick, tick, tick, nothing. I changed it from a backup drive to a storage device recently when my MacBook Pro was full i.e. no backup of the Time Capsule drive. I was video editing a huge, expensive project i.e. the full 3 TB drive - sod's law for it to fail when it did. Andy and his team had my drive collected from another country (2,500 miles from the UK) and shipped to his lab in the UK, located on a secure site, so you can have full confidence your data will remain confidential. You’re an idiot! At this point you need to stop and admit something - you are an idiot. You did not back up your data and it is nobody’s fault except your own. If you cannot admit that then don’t bother trying to waste everybody’s time - This is a professional service, you get what you pay for! I have since bought a personal NAS system to backup all my devices at home to avoid such situations in the future. Rinse yourself of all your emotions to productively move forward - it is not R3’s fault (I also went through these emotions). Professional Service: You rarely meet people in life who are so technically knowledgable and a pleasure to deal with. Andy is one of these gems - I actually can’t wait to have the opportunity to visit his lab in person next time I am in the UK. I have a very strong technical background and grilled Andy on the phone for at least 1 hour before I fully understood every single option and the full process. These guys are nothing short of wizards, this is the most advanced, professional technology company I have ever seen in the UK. It is nice to know such companies actually still exist! Outcome: Read more on the website of the process - the drives have to be matched like for like. My first rebuild destroyed the donor heads due to the scratch on the platters (interestingly the heads can dive into the platters on power loss, something which happens every week where I live - the NAS will be supplied from a UPS - thanks for the advice Andy!). The file list I received had 10’s of thousands of fragments, however, I could see the main file structure of my drive i.e. proof these guys had actually done something and not just asked for money like other companies without ever plugging it in. It took a second, targeted rebuild where Andy’s team really cranked up the wizardry, they switch off the heads from the sound platters (x 4 in my case) that were fully recovered in the first rebuild and targeted the damaged platters (x 2 in my case). By doing this, they can sweep the data on each side of the scratch to avoid damaging the new heads. Their custom software rebuilds the full image. The scratch made it impossible to get 100% of the data however Andy’s team recovered every single video file (some of these files are >100 GB each!) and had only one file which was missing a tiny amount of information that affected a few frames in the video file i.e recovered 99.99% of the data - the file plays! I can edit out the damaged frames). I am seriously impressed that they managed to do this!!! Cost? I wanted to post the cost of my recovery but it does not mean anything. The real question is - what is your data worth? A dead drive backed up elsewhere - bin it. Kids' childhood memories - priceless. What you have to bear in mind is that you are paying for the best data recovery service in the world. If your data is priceless, then be prepared to pay for forensic level service. This is where the people who can’t accept that they are idiots start to create problems. Conclusion: The ONLY company I will use and recommend to friends and employers for data recovery. Recovered every single file in my project. I can now continue editing my full project without any loss except a few frames in one video file (compare that result to Fields saying that they cannot recover any data at all after taking your hard-earned cash! - If you are a victim, Andy can not only recover your data but also your cash). If you are very knowledgeable / IT-based, don’t hesitate to get the level of confidence you need from Andy directly, an absolute gem of a guy and why I took so long to write this review. If you are an idiot and cannot accept responsibility for anything, then don’t bother contacting R3 - create your problems elsewhere. If you are ready to proceed, seriously consider what your data is really worth to you and how much you are willing to pay for the best, forensic-level service in the world. I seriously recommend R3 to anyone or any company who needs help and is realistic with the cost of their data. Disclaimer: Each case is individual. I assumed my drive would be fixed in one rebuild i.e. head failure only and did not expect any scratched platters - not all drives will be scratched for example. It took 2 rebuilds in the end but some cases can take more depending on the nature of the damage. Andy and his team will be able to develop a quote after analysing the drive in the lab.
Excellent service very polite and helpful staff. Will definitely recommend to anyone who needs help.
Excellent service! Excellent professionals!

About Our Process
What happens after I contact you?
We start with a free initial assessment. You'll speak with our team who will ask about your situation — what happened, what device is affected, and what data you need to recover.
Based on this conversation, we'll advise on the best next steps and arrange for your device to reach our Sheffield lab. For emergencies, we can dispatch collection within 60 minutes.
How do I get my drive to you?
You have several options: we offer free collection from your home or business address, you can drop off at our Sheffield lab or one of our UK drop-off points, or you can post the device using secure tracked delivery.
For urgent cases, our emergency collection service can reach most UK locations within 60 minutes.
How long will recovery take?
Standard recovery typically takes 7-10 working days from when we receive your device. This includes diagnosis, recovery work, and quality checks.
For urgent situations, we offer emergency service with turnaround as fast as 12-72 hours depending on complexity. We're available 24/7 for critical cases.
How do I know if my data is recoverable?
The honest answer is: we won't know for certain until our engineers examine the device in our lab. That's why we offer a free initial assessment with no obligation.
After diagnosis, we'll give you a clear, honest evaluation of what's recoverable, what it will cost, and how long it will take. If we don't think recovery is possible or worthwhile, we'll tell you — we won't push you into paying for work that's unlikely to succeed.
Pricing & Payment
How much does data recovery cost?
Every data recovery case is different, so we don't offer fixed pricing. The cost depends on factors like the type of device, the nature of the failure, the complexity of the recovery, and how urgently you need the data back.
We provide a clear quote after our free diagnostic assessment — before any chargeable work begins. Be wary of companies offering fixed prices without examining the device; they're often just running software scans rather than performing genuine data recovery.
What does "no data, no fee" actually mean?
It means exactly what it says: if we can't recover your data, you don't pay for the recovery work. The initial diagnostic assessment is always free.
We only charge once we've successfully recovered your files and you've verified the recovered data meets your needs. This applies to eligible cases — we'll confirm whether your case qualifies during the initial assessment.
When and how do I pay?
Payment is due after successful recovery, once you've reviewed and approved the list of recovered files. We accept bank transfer and standard UK payment methods.
For business clients, we can arrange invoicing. We'll discuss payment details as part of the quote process.
Trust & Security
How do I know you're a real lab and not a reseller?
We operate our own purpose-built UK laboratories, including our ISO Class 3 cleanroom facility at Security House in Sheffield and our Hitchin lab, with 10 specialist engineers working in-house.
You can visit our lab, and you'll speak directly with the people working on your case — not a call centre. Many companies advertise data recovery but simply forward drives elsewhere. We don't.
Will my data leave the UK?
No. All recovery work is performed within our UK laboratories under UK law, including our Sheffield and Hitchin facilities. Your data never leaves the country, is never sent to third parties, and is never outsourced overseas.
We're ICO registered and fully GDPR compliant. For sensitive cases, we can provide NDAs and chain-of-custody documentation.
What happens to my original device after recovery?
After successful recovery, we return your original device along with your recovered data on new storage media or via secure download.
If you prefer, we can securely destroy the original device and provide a certificate of destruction. We'll discuss your preferences as part of the recovery process.
Complex Cases
What if another lab already said my drive is unrecoverable?
This is actually one of our specialities. We've successfully recovered data from over 100 drives that other labs — including ISO-certified competitors — had declared unrecoverable.
"Unrecoverable" often means "beyond our capability" rather than genuinely impossible. Our engineers, facilities, and proprietary tools allow us to tackle cases others can't. There's no charge for us to assess a drive another lab has given up on.
Do you handle ransomware without paying the ransom?
Yes. We recover ransomware-encrypted systems using forensic imaging and advanced reconstruction techniques — without negotiating with criminals or paying ransoms.
We've handled ransomware recoveries of up to 60TB across multiple drives. Our approach focuses on recovering your data from the underlying storage, not on obtaining decryption keys from attackers.
