Unencrypt Western Digital My Passport Drives

Unlocking/Decrypting Your Drive

  • First, connect your drive to your computer or laptop using the USB port
  • Once connected, open File Explorer and go to This PC / My PC to open the WD Unlocker.
  • Using the password provided (which has been emailed to you from customerservices@r3datarecovery.com) enter into the box and click unlock.
  • Once unlocked, you will see “My Passport” in your available devices, click it and you will find your data inside within a folder with your Job Reference Number.

Removing or Changing Your Drive Password

  • To change or remove your password, once the drive is unlocked – open the WD Security Application which will open in a new window.
  • You will then see two different options, one to remove and one to change the password.
  • To remove, type in the original password and click “Update Security Settings”.
  • You can change the password by typing in the original password and checking the box “change password”. You will be prompted to type a new password, verify it and write a password hint.
  • NOTE: If you change the password please create multiple copies of it safely as without it your data is inaccessible and unrecoverable.
